I wish PA had a front liscense plate law, so we could all experience that same safety level here.

Re: license plate options on our birds

nope, I was completely coopertive. I always am. AS the conversation progressed, I asked the questions... his first impression was i was NOT a dick. So keep your highly opinionated thoughts to yourself. If some states dont require front plates, then it must not be that fricken important. end of subject.

back to the original question... what were the options? I know slp made something to put the plate lower on the bumper, but I cant find it now...
anyone know what I am talking about?

i agree with Rashiki that part of the reason for the front plate is due to radar use. but even moreso with laser. especially on our firebirds with retractable headlights. your front end reflectivity is extremely reduced (especially with laser) without a front plate. that is the aiming point for the cops sitting down the road trying to catch your (or my) *** speeding. the secondary aiming spot for cops shooting radar/laser is the headlights. after that, they are just aiming at the mass of the vehicle and hoping that they get a decent reading. a black firebird is an even better threat. black absorbs a lot of the laser. this is all fyi. but i feel that this is one of the more significant reasons for the front plate.

If there is any truth to your statement, I find it amusing that I drive a black Camaro with no front plate here, and cops have no problem nailing me, state troopers or otherwise.

haha, i didnt say that the radar wouldnt work on your car at all. i just said that not having exposed headlights and a front liscense plate reduces the reflectivity of your vehicle. thus reducing the range at which they can get an accurate reading on their guns. and to be honest with you, this is all information that i read on the net. take it for what you will. i have no hard based facts that this is any bit accurate. but it does seem to make a little bit of sense.

btw, i got this info from radartest.com. but when i went to look it up as a reference, it seems they charge you to read that info now (under speedtrap technology). it was an interesting read, though.

Re: license plate options on our birds

When I first got my Formula I kept a front license plate on for about 2 months. Then when I was washing it, I just took it off to clean the nose. After that I just left it off for a few years. I never got pulled over. Then one nite the OSP got me. I kinda shrugged it off. Then, I got pulled over 4 more times within the next 2 weeks. That prompted me to put it back on

It sure looks cute !!!!

I have no front plate on my car. If I have to pay $85 ever 18 months or so for a ticket thats fine with me. The only time I have ever gotten one is when I get a ticket for something else.

I remember seeing a Mythbusters where they tested all kinds of radar and laser equipment on cars. It has been a while, but I recall that in the end the cars all showed up on radar, regardless of what they had on them, or how shiny they were, or if the liscense plates were covered, etc.

lets leave it at this, cops gotta do their job, but when they dont have anything to do at the moment they tend to look for the smaller things to busy them up a little... and NO im not cop bashing

Re: license plate options on our birds

Why is it that many other states dont require a front plate? There is no reason for it. Its dumb. Other states get away with one rear plate, same with collectors plates here. Its assinine how stupid this state is. There is always double standards. I cant wait until my car is old enough to be a collectors plate, then I only have to have the rear one, and I can tell every cop to kiss my @ss.

Anyway, back on the reason WHY I posted... not to stir the pot, but to find out if there are any better looking brackets out there for a formula firebird, 93-97 years!!! Anyone have helpfull information or not?

Re: license plate options on our birds

I Lit the cop up thr first time...well every time i got pulled over for that. Its the law in texas, yet, Vettes, vipers, ferraris etc dont have them from the dealer????? double standard?

Back in my nieghborhood in texas i was pulled up 3 time for the front plate thing. I told him there no F'ing way im drilling holes in my car...would you? then i told him about all the other cars that dont come from the factory with them....

Anyway if you dont win the ticket and they keep harrassing you about it, put it on your prastic airdam under the car. it will get beat to crap, but its legal and dont mess anything up
