keyless entry rear hatch opening

My rear hatch will not open on the key fob on my 95 Z28, so I bought a used hatch release on Ebay. I fitted the replacement part and now it works from the button in the glove box but not on the key fob.

When I got the replacement part I could see why it was mot working as a small solonoid that fits at the top of the latch was missing on the old one.

Do I have to reprogramme the key fobs or what? or will it not work because it is from a different car?

95 Z28 Camaro A4 CAI, MSD 6AL, all the free mods, 3" exhaust cutout where the cat should be , 160 stat, Hypertech III programmer for the fans and I plan to do 3.42 gears next, I have a few cosmetic mods, 97 silver anniversary stripes, 18" Conig lives wires with 245/40 18 dunlop SP9000 sport tires, white dash dials.

There were fobs with different p/n numbers, I suppose it's possible that the hatch release is what actully recieves the signal from the fob instead of the fob transmitting to a specific box that sends the signal for the hatch to release. So if you got a hatch release from a car that didn't have remote entry or just had a different p/n number that might be why it doesn't work.

The keyless entry receiver is what tells the hatch release relay to operate and then operates the latch. So the signal from the fob is sent to the keyless entry receiver. Replacing the solenoid at the hatch should not have any impact on the fob operation.

Re: keyless entry rear hatch opening

Before I replaced the rear latch if you pressed the button in the glove box you could hear the relay clicking but not when you pressed the fob rear hatch button?

The little red light on the key fob comes on? I have 2 key fobs and they both work for locking and unlocking, alarm and I have a DEI remote control start when you press both the lock and unlock buttons at the same time.

It does seem odd that the button in the glove box works but not from the fob do you think reprogramming them would do anything?

You can try it. If its free may as well. You have lights on your fobs? I don't...
