Key stuck in trunk latch

I went to open my hatch today with my key and it turned to release the hatch. The only problem is that my key is now stuck in that turned position and whatever I do, I cannot turn the key back or remove it. I took the entire trunk release mechanism off and it still wont budge. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Whatever you do, don't break the key off

WD40 usually helps.

I WD40'd the hell out of it and it still wont budge. I even tried wiggling the metal latch where the spring is attached and it still wont turn a bit. I hope that the lock tumblers arent stuck.

Before you go to a GM dealer you might try calling a local locksmith and ask them what they'd charge to extract the key and if they think they could get the lock working again. Probably cost much less than a dealer and probably do it right away instead of the old "drop the car off and call us in 2 days" dealer rope-a-dope.
