Keeping Car Stock

Hey guys. I want to keep the car as stock as possible without making any changes obvious or nothing that cannot be reversed without damage. I am leaving the exhaust stock even though the tips are about as ugly now as they were back in 2002 when I owned one then. Back then I had magnaflow and cat back. I also did the MAF mod and the K&N intake. I had some nice stainless tips that were turned down. I think that things changed between the 1999 and 2002 like the anti slip button. Did not have one in 99. I want to add a power antenna and do want to do some mods that do not damage the car or make it look any different for performance. What are my options. As I said, I doubt I will put 5K miles on the car before someone makes me an offer I cannot refuse. What thinks you guys.

Re: Keeping Car Stock

ASR (traction control) was an extra cost option (RPO “NW9”). Not all cars had it. You can buy a module that changes the function of the ASR button from “always on from startup, until you turn it off" to “off from startup, until you turn it on".

Suspension mods can improve handling and traction, while not being visible, except from under the car.

Do you want the engine to appear completely “stock”? Ported stock heads and more aggressive cam, plus a good tune doesn’t change appearance. LS1 stock exhaust manifolds aren’t all that bad. High stall torque converter and higher numerical rear axle ratio will not show, while really waking the car up off the line.

Is that the kind of stuff you are looking for?

Re: Keeping Car Stock

Holy crap no. LOL. I just wanted simple bolt on mods that made the car a bit more aggressive like my SS was back in 2000. Air boxes, MAF sensors etc. I do not have a problem with the stock exhaust but those tips are something I do not like at all. I guess I have to decide if I want to keep this one. I baby the crap out of it and I want to keep it like new.

Re: Keeping Car Stock

no problem. Car has loads of power. I just wanted that same feel I had back then. It is still to freaking fast once you put your foot in it. I just remember that it was much faster off of the line well before I put my foot in it back in the day. I will look at the Rear end code this evening to see what it is and compare it to what I had back then. I have the window sticker from every car and truck I bought new since I was 18 years old. Every single one of them.

Re: Keeping Car Stock

Are you sure that you're not feeling nostalgic and the car really isn't any different? I would start with a tune: LT1 PCM Tuning - Welcome!

Soloman claims to be able to get a fair amount of extra HP and MPG without additional modification. Since you want to stay stock this is about the biggest gain I can see you picking up. Air filters claim to give 5 HP, but rarely make that big a difference.
