my '91 had some serious hatch rattle caused by the trunk deck (bottom) making little contact with the hatch rubber isolators/bump stops (top). i put some furniture nylon glide pads to add more padding and it solved the problem.

i'm going to have a look at my '95 rattles tomorrow

I have a vibration/buzz somewhere between the windshield and the dash on the drivers side between 35- 45 mph. It drives me F-ing nuts, anyone else?

My 94 used to do that, I removed the upper dash pad and stuck some foam under it, by the windshield pillar. The problem went away. I'm now trying to track down an elusive squeal coming from the rear of my car. It annoys me so bad I put my car away for the winter 2 weeks early. I think it might be the lift supports? Not sure.

How about the armrest / console between the front seats. Does this squeak for anyone when you rest your arm on it ? I've already had it replaced under warranty and it still does it???

Has anyone come up with a fix to the passenger seat rattle?

My 94 Firebird had this problem, and now, my 2000 Z has the same problem. The only fix so far is to always have someone ride with you, but that would get annoying.

Let me know what you guys come up with. I'm doing my best to try and figure something out.

I dynamatted the inside of my doors like a week ago when i replaced my power window motor. Took it out for a quick spin today, and DAMN did it make a difference, it was quieter inside the car and I didnt hear as many rattles going over bumps.

Did you order your dynomat online? If so, provide a link to where you purchased it.

Thanks

For those that have rattling hatches, this is what I did:

1). I realized that the hatch began to rattle shortly after removing the plastic covers that line the hatch area (window was broken). It turned out the plastic push-pins that hold the plastic molds had become distorted. These little bastards were rattling away! I replaced the pins and wala!

I have been chasing several rattles from the rear end of my 99 Z28 with the Torsen diff centre.

I think one major rattle came from the rear hand-brake shoes rattling against the backing plates. I found this when I was checking the 2 rear axles for end float (about 0.8mm each) & the rear discs for run-out.
I noticed the 2 retaining clips that hold the park brake shoe to the backing plate were a problem. The clip on one side was unclipped, and the one on the other side was clipped but very loose.
I removed each clip, and held it in the vise and used a small hammer to re-tension the clip before re-installing. This seems to have cured a lot of rattling from the rear-end. (particularly going over sharp bumps like railway tracks).

(Prior to this I also had both rear wheel bearings replaced and am using Mobil 80-140 Synthetic oil and GM additive.)

Earlier, I had sent a mail message to Torsen about the rattling noise I was getting around 20 Mph (particularly on coasting left-hand beds). The reply from Torsen (diff manufacturer) stated that "the helical gears in the Torsen diff centre will make a rattling noise when the diff is not under load, typically when coasting at around 20Mph".
That's why I am using 80-140 diff oil.

I still find the rattle annoying but I am going to put some extra sound deadening into the rear of the car to try and reduce the Torsen rattle.

Anybody had any positive solutions from GM ??

Good Luck,
Gavster1.

That piece that sits behind my front bumper and in front of my rear bumper rattlesand squeaks. I think its called the car . I could go through a case of plasti dip on this damn thing. The rhino liner stuff also works good for deadening sound and rattles, its not nearly as expensive as dynomat.

I have sponges all over in my car! I filled pillars, center console, etc with sponges and they do a perfect job at removing any squeeks!

I didn't have any rattles in my car at all until I removed the muffler. Now I have an annoying rattle inside the dash behind the glove box which is audible even over the radio at around 2000 rpm. Sounds like a plastic part vibrating against a metal bracket of some sort. I pulled off the lower plastic cover by the kick panel to have a look if it was coming from there but it isn't. I guess the only cure is a quieter exhaust.

Oh yeah my hatch had an annoying squeak too, which I fixed with some motorcycle chain grease (the aerosol kind), and by adjusting the stops out a little bit.
