Ignition problem
Ignition problem
My car has some trouble with the start up. Clutch goes down, I turn the key, nothing happens for like 5-8 seconds and then it will start up. From the time when I turn the key to the time it turns on it is dead silent. It doesn't struggle to start up, just doesn't start at all until those seconds go by. Went to Autozone for a diagnostic check but it didn't throw any codes. I think it might be my alarm because it has ignition kill as a feature, but I wanted to check with you guys to see if I could check anything else before I take it in. Anything I should look for?
Re: Ignition problem
i'm guessing that the car will not even start to crank until after 5-8 seconds? have someone with a multimeter measure battery voltage while you start the car. does it go down under 12 volts right away, or after the 5-8 sec time frame. if its not going down until after the 5-8 sec, something is not allowing the starter to energize for that period of time, and i'd start to think something electronic. if it does go down right away, i'd start thinking something mechanical in the engine or starter itself.
