How much for an assembly?
How much for an assembly?
What is the general cost for assembling a block?
What do I need to supply them with also?
Say I had rods/pistons/block/crank. What else should I supply normally?
I'm new to engine assembly.
Also, if this isn't too difficult to do, once the rods and pistons are together is it something I could to in a garage? I am VERY mechanically inclined. (I'd buy an LT1 build book)
And if this isn't advanced enough, I'm sorry.

Assembly normally cost around $250 from what I have found.
Normally you would have the machinist assemble the RA so they can check tolerances and what not to get it right. It isn't difficult to assemble an engine, you just need to have the machinist get everything where it needs to be and order you bearings. Have him install the cam bearings for you and also the pistons/rods if they are press fit, it's just easier.

I just took dilevery of my new motor so I have a little insite. What I learned was to find somebody you can trust, understands your expectations and knows what your timeline is. In the end it costs what it costs and the cheapest person might be the best and the most expensive might be the worst. I'd have to say anywhere from $300-800 would be reasonable but your selection on crank/rods/pistons will also be a factor as some of the offshore pieces require more time due to variance than the more expensive options out there.
