How do I tell if it is a real LT4 SS

I am looking at purchasing a 1997 Camaro SS, I am told it is an LT4 and production # 0010. It has T-tops and I read that the SS's that came with the LT4 only came in the hardtops. Will the VIN or RPO codes tell me if it was an SS and had the LT4 option?

Is there anything else I should keep in mind when looking at this car??

Thanks
John

A red intake manifold is a clue.

Re: How do I tell if it is a real LT4 SS

I know a red intake is supposed to be an LT4 but what I really want to know is if the car really came with an LT4, My 94 has an LT4 in it but that doesn't mean it came with it.

I know the RPO R7T indicates that it is an SS but what indicates that it came with an LT4?

Contact SLP with the VIN. They will be able to tell you if its real.

If it has TTops, it's not a factory LT4 car.

It should have LT4 listed in the RPO codes. Just like LT1 and LS1 are listed in there for cars with those engines.

If you see a P listed as the engine code then it is not an LT4.

The LT4 conversion was done by SLP in their plant. The RPO code isn't going to show up on the factory code label. It may be part of a supplementary SLP label.
