How can I check the codes

without buying a code tool? ($30 paper clip) My durango will flash the codes if I turn the key on and off in a certain sequence. How about f-bodies? I might finally buy one tomorrow, and I'd like to be able to check so I don't end up buying someone elses problem. Thanks.

Re: How can I check the codes

What year is your car?
For the 4th gens: If its a 93, you can use the paper clip trick. 94+ you need a scan tool. On thing to do if you need to know a code, and don't want to buy a scanner. Autozone will scan your car for free around here, see if they'll do it where you're at too.

That's right. I forgot all about autozone. I might be buying a 94 tomorrow. Hopefully there is an autozone near him. Thanks.

Autozone will only scan OBD2 cars.

Here's a list of scanners for OBD 1 & 2.

The "links" in that list and the model numbers are out of date. Its just too much work keeping up with the changes.
