How about a 6.4 LB battery?

Anyone looked at the Braille Auto Development carbon fiber light weight racing batteries? They have them in the latest JEG’s catalog, and at this website:

http://www.brailleauto.com

1380 PulseCA (550 CCA) - 21.0 LB (6.6" x 5.2" x 6.8"H) - $250

1050 PulseCA (425 CCA) – 15.0 LB (6.8” x 3.4” x 6.1” H) - $240. ($172 at JEG’d)

900 PulseCA (360 CCA) – 11.5 LB (5.8” x 3.4” x 5.8”H) - $225 ($160 at JEG’s)

520 PulseCA (??? CCA) - 6.4 LB (5.8” x 3.4” x 4.2”H) - $200

Obviously, the smallest one is not going to be a good idea for a large cubic inch EFI setup and its hungry power demands, but the other two might be worth looking into.

Not necessarily, when you consider what you have to do to add the HP equivalent to what 40# of weight savings, off the front end can net you.

I don't consider it too pricey. Considering what an aftermarket k-member costs, and how it provides similar weight savings, I would consider the battery option a cheaper, easier way to shed some pounds at the track.

I successfully used garden tractor batteries in my Shelby for quite some time. Granted, that was a turbo 4 banger, but it did the job fine assuming the engine fired quickly.

On the other hand, if shaving weight off the front is the priority, why not relocate to the rear?

Because you add weight with the heavy cables, require an NHRA approved sealed and vented battery box, and are required to install a master power cutoff through the rear body panel.

Cool find Fred, I had used the Odessy pc545 (10.8lbs) for about a week, maybe 10-12 starts and it damaged the battery to where it will no longer accept a full charge. I would agree that the top two (1380-1050) could be worth looking into.

The group75 Energizer I'm using for the time being weighs 32lbs,650cca

The 1050 would make a 17lbs loss $172.00, not bad it it can live. The pc545 was $69.99.
