Hopefully right spot---door locks & other stuff

Hello all, I have a 93 z28 with automatic doorlocks installed. I bought the car with them non working because I got a good deal but I am working on fixing the little shortcomings while I work on the money of upgrading the engine. I was wondering if anyone has a guess as to where a good point to look for a problem is, common failure point or something like that? Also I installed a stereo system a couple weeks ago and shortly after that my interior lights (on rearview and near tail) are not working and the button for opening the hatch is not working, there may be more involved that I have not noticed but those are the main two things I noticed. When I installed the radio one the main power wire on the wiring harness adapter was not used because it was not getting power for some reason so I hard wired it to a fuse. I have also checked the fuses(with fuse checker) and none are blown or rated different than what is supposed to be in the slot. And just for the sake of information possibly related the window motors seem to be dying out, mainly driver's side seems bad, not sure if related or not but figured I would mention since it is possible.

One other thing I am wondering about, my fuel guage seems to be weird or just off. When I bought the car it did not have much gas in it and guage seemed correct but when I added a full tank of gas it went up about 1/4 tank past full and stays there for a long time, like up to 100 miles before it starts dropping. Seems I never know when it is right or if it ever is anymore. It does move and moves during hard braking or tight turns but as I said it always seems to be off. Could it be something on the back of the guage or am I going to have to look in the tank to solve the problem? Thanks in advance and again I hope this is the right spot to post this, kind of new here.

As far as the door locks?? Could be one thing or multiple things??? Are you getting power to the switch???

Thank you

Thank you for the link N, explains a lot who would have thought chevrolet would make a weird item on this car (having replaced spark plug wires recently lol) As for getting power to the switch for the door locks sometimes it sounds like there is power but it is just not doing anything, think I heard clicking under the dash a couple times but that was about it and I want to install an alarm and stuff on the car but I need the locks to work right first.

Also one other thing I did not mention in original post, where are the vacuum lines located for the vents in the air/heating system. My air conditioner works great but when I turn over to heat the air is not warm at all, thinking it may not be opening the area where the heater core is at, either that or someone put a low temp thermostat in the car but I figured it would still get warm enough in that situation to feel warm.

Thank you again for everything, this site is great so far, better than my old VW site

I have been investigating a door lock prob too. You should first check the pass. side switch, I have read that it is the "master switch" and if it is bad then the drivers side will not work. Also you can check for power to this switch. You could test the actuators by applying power to them between the switch assembly and the actuator.

-side note-
Everything used to work on my car and stopped at some point, probably after a winter hibernation. My car also does not make the *ding* *ding *ding* noise when the door is open and the key is in. Maybe someone can add to this prob.

Well

Got the lights, bell, trunk release to all start working again. Seems a fuse must have been ready to blow or something because I had checked them all recently. Tonight I was messing with the door lock switch and blew that fuse and another and replaced them both and now everything works again(listed above) Will look deeper into other things mentioned tomorrow when I actually have light to work.
