an engine swap is not necessary. you can get 380 to the wheels out of an lt1 without too much trouble. probably a cam and head swap is in your near future if these are your goals. things that most people start with on these cars would probably be a cold air intake, followed by either a catback, or headers and catback. after that start looking towards suspension work, or a heads and cam swap. you would be surprised what some aftermarket suspension upgrades can do. as far as quarter mile, stock with an auto should be between 13.8 and 14.2 depending on the driver and where you are running at. i ran 13.86 with a K&N cold air intake and flowmaster exhaust on an otherwise stock car.

Highly possible to swap the tranny. Should be plenty of info on that floating around on here.

Only reason you'd need to do an engine swap is if you bought a V6. You didn't really specify. cammed was going on the premise that you were in a Z/28.

What we don't know here is whether its a V6 or a V8.

It is a 3.4L V6. Head over to the V6 Tech Section and you will find a thread "stickied" at the top of the forum dedicated to engine swaps. You can decide if a LT1 or an LS1 suits your tastes and budget - or if you want to just keep this car as a driver and maybe pick up a V8 car to start with since their prices are dropping pretty good.

Not gonna be able to get that kind of HP out of the 3.4L though.
