Help woth crankshaft seal replacement

hello...i have a 95 v6 3.4 camaro...and i have discovered a leak, am assuming is coming from the crankshaft seal...now because i refuse to pay $500 for replacing a seal, am gonna attempt to do it myself...can someeone tell me what type of stands i should use, would rear stands be sufficient...also i figure since ill be removing the crankshaft, i was thinking of instaling a performance pulley set..can anybody recommend a good one (inexpensine maybe)....also any suggestions to make this type of job easier would greatly be appreciated...thx for ur help

Re: Help woth crankshaft seal replacement

First off, get yourself a good shop manual. Is it from the front or rear of the engine? Either way it will be a pain, but I don't think you'll need to remove the crank. You'll probably need your stands under the front of the car, since that's where the engine sits, and it wouldn't hurt to have them all around for more work space. If it isn't leaking bad and you aren't overly ****-retentive about your car I would just leave it. It'll spot up the driveway and stuff, but that's a lot of work.

Now, if it's the rear main and you have a manual transmission, the leaking oil can soak your clutch and cause it to slip. Give us a few more details, but first be certain that it is a crank/main seal leaking and not the timing cover or oil pan.
