HELP, my car won't start

My car starts about 50% of the time with no problem at all, then the other times, it won't even crank at all. Its not the battery, im pretty sure its not the starter, i have taken it into shops, and nobody will work on it. I think it might have something to do with the security system, since the security light keeps coming on. Please help if you have any suggestions...

if you have the pass key system try another set of keys when it won't start...sometimes the resistor in the key gets a little dirty and the computer dosen't like it. so if you got a spare set try that when it won't start.

Key Resistor

I tried the other set of keys, it has the same problem... Does this mean that it isn't a key resitor problem, or maybe something on the receiving end of the key?

i'm not sure but it's not the key if you tryed that and i'm pretty convinced that it is the security system that is messin up

My car does something like this. every now and then it will just decide not to crank. Full power, just won't crank. No click or anything. I thought that it might be the switch that tells if the clutch is in or not, but the security system sounds like a much more probable answer.

If the security light somes on, then yeah, its probably the passkey system. I just rewired my 94 and had to borrow some locksmith tools to get through the system. There are actually 2 different passkey systems used on the camaro. The passkey II and the passkey III, I think its the passkey II system up to about 1995 but I'm not sure. On the earlier one the lock cylinder only senses the resistance in the key and sends it to the passkey security box which them sends a "fuel enable" signal to the computer. Passkey III, the lock cylinder does most of that work. (I'm not sure if I'm explaining it so that this makes sense). Unfortuantely, the passkey II security box is screwed on the side of the passenger air bag frame. So getting to it and replacing it involves taking the dash off (not fun). I would cut another key first, or have a locksmith look at it. I know this didn't answer your question, but getting to know the system is the first step to fix it. Also, 1965GP, the clutch switch actually does go through the security system. There should be a big yellow wire, it goes to the theft deterrant relay. So your thinking is right on.

Check the alternator, that was a reason why one of our cars wouldn't start one time is cuz it went on us.
