Help finding 69 Firebird
Help finding 69 Firebird
I am currently trying to track down a 1969 Firebird I used to own. Through some troubled times, the car was taken away from me, and I am curious as to what ever happened to it. My probelm comes from the fact that, being as old as it is, the VIN number is only 13 digits long. All the VIN locating sites I found needed 17 digits. I still have the old registration, and insurance card for the car, and they are listing the VIN as: 223379U104223
I would really like to buy this car back! If anyone has any sites that will do a search for a shorter vin, that would be much appreciated. I really do not want to have to shell out some cash to find it, but if it comes to that, then so be it.
Since I know someone will ask how I lost it, here is a brief story. I had a 97 ram air formula that I was looking at getting rid of. I sold it to a guy that had a 69 in pieces in his buddies garage. He sold me the car for $5500 and for that price, his buddy would continue to put the car back together for me. All the parts where there, minus a few odds and ends (the plastic headlight surrounds, and some of the chrome). Well, this guy let me make payments to him, and in turn he would let me continue driving the 97 during the week while he was out driving truck. It was a good deal, and we both were benefiting from it. So the car is completed in about 4-5 months, and I still had some money that I owed him for the car, so it stayed in his buddies garage. One day he says that if I pay for the insurance on it, that I can start driving it, so I do. About a month after I start driving it, I come into some extra cash and pay him for the car. This was on a Sunday, which again he was leaving for the road. He took my money and put it in his bank, and said that when he got back on Friday that we could go get the title from the bank (safe deposit box). On Friday he got back too late, so then Saturday we would go. Well Friday night I was planning on driving up to Des Moines to visit a friend after work, well when I went out to my car to leave, it was gone! the dummy that had bought my 97 had used pictures of the 69 to bank against his loan on the 97, and never made one single payment. So my 69 got repo'd. Well, that guy fled town to Florida, and I helped the bank find him and get the car back, so they offered the 69 back to me for $5000. I did not have it, and some other guy bought it for $6500. He tried to sell it back to me for $10,000, saying how that is how much he payed for it and all, but I already knew how much since the bank guy and I were now all "tight" and whatnot.
So anyway, I am really curious as to what happened to that car. I love it to death, and I really would love to have it back. On a side note, I had about $15,000 in the car when it was taken, counting that I had rebuilt the 4-spd in it, gone through the rear end, did some interior work and only had the motor to go through, and a new shifter that I had ordered, but it had not come in yet. Please help me

Re: Help finding 69 Firebird
If you have any cop friends they might be able to do a check, im pretty sure they can do the short vin numbers. Otherwise you could go down to the dmv, if the car is still in the state, and check. I dont know if there is any other way to find out. Hope you do though.
