Help with emissions!

I just BARELY failed the slow speed NO test. Max is 419 and I got 438. The high speed NO test I did perfectly fine, which I don't understand. Could it be that he had it in the wrong gear? My car is a 6 speed 97 Z28, he did it in 1st gear I think. Shouldn't he do it in 3rd or something?

Anyways, They also caught that I had my PCV hose and fuel evap hose disconnected, which is the fault of the shop that replaced the head gaskets on my car. They left all of this **** disconnected, I thought I caught all of it...

Anyways, what do you guys think is the problem? Would hooking up the PCV and evap hose help? It doesn't seem to me that it would, what would fix it?

Thanks for any help guys!

My low speed NO has been on the higher side for the last two inspections, but around 20 points from the high limit. You might want to check your EGR valve and solenoid, make sure the valve is not caked with carbon and that the solenoid is operating.

Also did the shop have a fan to help cool the engine? Because the tech at the inspection shop said that high NOX can be from high combustion temps such as carbon in the head or high engine temps etc. The tech at the inspection place placed a huge fan in front to help keep things cool.

Yea, there was a fan. He also let my car just sit there idling while he talked with his friend. I figured no big it should help because it's hotter. I'm getting a new air filter and I'm going to check the EGR when it cools down. Hopefully that will fix it.
