Heat/Tstat Question

Its been quite cold here in NY. Im driving with the girlfriend in the car and she starts complaining how the heat isnt working. The air that is blowing out of the vents isnt hot. Its sort of luke warm. Its not blowing out cold air, but its not that hot either. Would that have anything to do with the 160 tstat?

You need to flush out your heater core probably. It's not hard to do when it's warm out or if you have a garage, but you'll probably just wait till it warms up if it's really cold outside.

Look it up on here.

When the car is warmed up, the heat isnt that hot really. I can put the fan speed on the highest setting & still not hot heat, only luke warm heat

Your heater core needs flushed. It's not hard, you just disconnect the two hoses that go to the heater core, wash it out through one side, then the other.

Its pretty common for the heater cores to get gummed up and cause heating issues in these cars. Your t-stat shouldn't be the issue in this case.

a 160 thermostat will result in cooler heat, but enough to keep warm. My car has a 160 a warms up nicely enough.

Turning up the fan speed is only going to make the air cooler, the air doesn't have as much time to transfer heat from the heater core.

Yeah but if the fan speed is faster.. more air.. cooler coolant temp.. less heat. I highly doubt thats it. but still.

LIven in Chicago and its been 10 below not including the windchill. Just brought my 93 z in for the heat and he flushed the heater core out 3 times and traced it backwards, it turns out a piece of silcone or plastic was stuck in one of the lines. Now nice and cozy!!!!!
