headlight issues

So My head light stopped working so I put in a new one. Turned on my lights and it still wasn't working. So i put the old one back in and started looking for a head light fuse and I couldn't find one which seems kinda weird.

So then I started tapping on my fuse boxes and wiggling my wires and nothing happened. Then I tapped on the head light and bam! the head light started working again. anyone have any idea what my be causing this so I can get a real fix if it starts happening again? Also whats up with the fuses? Are there no fuses for the head lights in these cars?

By the way I have a 93' camaro with a 5.7 liter engine and the head light I was working on was the driver side lowbeam. any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Expect this to be moved to the General Tech forum...

Anyway, if the headlight lights when you tap on it there's probably an intermittent connection between the bulb and bulb socket. Disconnect the bulb socket and check the terminals for cleanliness. If you have doubts replace the socket.

The headlights are fused by fusible links, that is, the gray/black wires that come directly off of the battery terminal in the engine compartment.

Re: headlight issues

the bulb and the bulb socket are all one assembly in these cars. Are you talking about the actual connector that plugs into the back of the head light? If so I guess I could try spraying some electrical cleaner in the connector. I suppose it could have gotten moisture inside because this is kind of the begining of the heavy raining season in my region.

Re: headlight issues

That is what I meant - the connector. Just disconnect it and look at it first. Then turn on the headlight with the connector disconnected and see if you have proper voltage either with a test light or multimeter.

Re: headlight issues

Please post on the correct forum. LT1 Based Engine Tech is not for headlight problems.

Moving to "General 67-02 F-Body Tech".

Re: headlight issues

You have corrosion in the connector.

89 Thunderbird Supercoupe headlight issues?
I have an 89 Thunderbird Supercoupe with headlight issues. They will flash on and off after 5-10 minutes of use. It is only the headlights, foglights or brights (if being used) that are affected. All other lights (parking lights, tail lights etc) are not affected. I cannot find a whole lot of information about this issue. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Wow.... you're posting from an IP in Pakistan, and your IP is already listed on the "Stop Spam Site". You have a spam link in your signature. And you own a Thunderbird, but you are asking about it on a Camaro site.

What's wrong with the picture?
