Headers Chrome Vs Ceramic

http://www.tbyrnemotorsports.com/lt1catalog.html

Looking at the BBKs here. Is it worth paying more for the Ceramic?

Chrome is going to look nice as long you don't start or drive the car (heat will destroy the chrome). Your other choice is all right but expensive. Look for stainless steel headers (SLP) so they will not rust. Also who can see the headers anyways.

Re: Headers Chrome Vs Ceramic

The chrome will eventually rust, where as stainless steel will "blue". I would go with ceramic coating cause it keeps the heat in the header and out of the engine bay. Stainless is no so good in this regard.

Re: Headers Chrome Vs Ceramic

Advantages of cera-metallic coatings:

-reduces rust. Headers rust from the extreme heat, not from moisture. The cera-metallic coating keeps the heat inside the tube and reduces the external tube metal temperature.

-the lower tube metal temperature reduces stress and vibration induced cracking.

-the lower tube metal temperature puts less heat into the engine compartment.

-keeping the heat inside the tube keeps the exhaust gasses hotter, and increases gas velocity, increasing "scavenging".... improved intake charge due to exhaust flow inertia. Jet Hot claims 3% HP increase.

-look good

While stainless will reduce corrosion, it won't provide the other benefits. "Chrome" does nothing at all.
