Re: Having a key made

I like the idea of removing or bypassing VATS, seems cheaper.

The problem is how do I get to these wires?

Re: Having a key made

There is a tool made for locksmiths that holds a key made by code or whatever method used to the cylinder. This tool has settings 1 - 15 for the different VATS values. Its set 1 value at a time and then tried in the ignition. You have a few tries before the security system forces a shut down. Wait 15 minutes and back at it again. When you hit the right value then you simply copy the key onto a VATS key with the proper resistor value and your done. Very few locksmiths are willing to do this. Because of the time involved. The tool to interagate the cars computer is several thousand bucks and only a dealer or a automotive locksmith who works auctions making keys for cars would invest in this computer. As for your 2nd question. Can you bypass the VATs?? Yes but you cant because you dont know your cars VATs value. Therefore your screwed. Good luck. And to the guy with the 76 its got nothing to do with any of this thread. I could put a new ignition cylinder in your car by disassembling your steering collum in under 30 minutes including a smoke break and a cup of coffee

My VATS value is 10

I just dont know how to get to it, and what type of resistor to get to solder it on

Re: Having a key made

Its all there in that link to disable the VATs 1: remove the panel under the dash and look for a pair of yellow wires coming from the steering column and leading to a connector a short distance away. 2: The easiest way to install this resistor is to cut the wires leading into the column about a foot from the connector. Take this section of wire, strip the ends and solder the resistor in place. Take this section of wire and resistor and simply plug back into the connector under the dash. The VATS module is now fooled into thinking that there is always the correct key in the ignition.
