Gutting the A/C System...

I ordered the a/c delete pulley and im just wondering if i take out that A/C box on the passanger side will that affect my heater at all? I know when i had my iroc i tryed that but it was connected with my blower motor and i f-ed that thing all up. I want to get rid of everything A/C related. It would make the engine bay alot nicer aswell. So what exactly is behind that box if i can take it off without fing with my heating system?

Also, is the R12(or whatever they use)Dangerous? I pulled off afew A/C lines without releasing the pressure in the system. Crap sprayed all over my hands, alternator, motor ect... and continued to puff out for about 5 minutes. I felt a little weird after that, possibly my imagination but damn did i open that garage door fast!

If you pull out the box then you heater will go with it. As far as the refrigerant it should have r-134 whcih is not dangerous to the ozone which r-12 is.

When you need info on the health related issues of chemicals, you need to look up the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS). The 4th Gens use R134a, aka 1,1,1,2- Tetrafluoroethane. Here's a link to one manufacturer's version of the MSDS:

http://www1.boc.com/uk/sds/special%5Cr134a.pdf

Read section 3: Hazards Identification (note the use of the word "asphyxiation"), and Section 4: First Aid Measures (note cautions such as "low concentrations may cause narcotic effects. Symptoms may include dizziness, headache, nausua and loss of co-ordination. High concentrations may cause asphyxiation..... loss of mobility/consciousness..."

So theirs nothing i can do about that box without loseing my heater? It would be so much easyer to work on the motor if it were gone. As for the refrigerant, so by me breathing it in and it spraying all over my hands its not going to cause me any harm? That crap totally soaked my right hand and it's really itchy.

Thanks Injuneer. I don't think i breathed in too much of it. Like i said though, it did make me feel woozy. My mistake, thought it was all empty.

As far as the "itching" is it possible you have some mild frostbite?
