It all depends how it looks when you actually put your eyes on it. The optispark is not as big of an issue as some people make it out to be. Some people have problems with it, some never have a problem with it. I would drive it, and if it runs fine the opti is ok. You'll know if the opti is having problems because the car won't run right. That model year is still OBDI, so it is harder to diagnose problems if you have one. The 96+ years are all OBDII and is much easier to read/fix trouble codes. Also, depending on where you live that can get you out of being sniffed for smog. Here in arizona, if you have an OBDII, they just plug into that port and check to see if there are any codes...no codes=pass smog. They don't put you on the sniffer or the rollers. I would personally look for something 96 and newer just for that reason. I think the price sounds a little high for the year, even if it is in great shape. I would say around $3500-3800 sounds more realistic.

well given that i got a 97 z28 with a limping 4l60e and a horrible paint job and some bad rust on the undercarrage for 3500. i'd say that might be a good price especially if its got upgrades to the car, but more notorious than the bad optisparks is the fact that most z28s were driven hard.

yeah thats true about them being driven hard, then it just comes down 2 whether or not the owner or owners took care of it as far as oil changes/tune ups. if its treated good it can last awhile. mine had 100k miles when i got it and ive put on 80k more that were driven very hard 4 most of them.

1995 Z28 M6
12x,xxx miles
complete UMI suspension
eibach springs
koni 4/4 shocks
ASR
Asking $4600
He apparently spent 3 grand on suspension parts alone. Does that sound about right? The car appears to be in great shape.. Mirrors match the body, paint looks reflective, the dash isn't cracked. Basically im here to ask if you guys think thats a reasonable price, and things I should be checking for when I go look at it. I know LT1's are notorious for their optispark issue.. is there anyway I can check for this? I've never bought a car before so this is something new for me. Also I realize this isn't the exact forum for this type of thread, but I chose to post here because this area gets the most traffic. Thanks a lot to anyone who can help me out.
Might have a mechanic look her over,if the seller says no,walk,no, run away.My02.

If the car idles smooth and has no miss in the higher rpms at wide open throttle then the opti is most likely O.K.

I paid $5k for a my 94 TA with 77,XXX on the clock. Car was bone stock, aside from an Edelbrock catback and Moroso CAI. Paint could use a little help, but the maintenance records were insanely perfect. The previous owner changed the oil every 3 months, even though the car spent most of its time sitting for almost 8 years.

Re: is this a good buy?

Well, there is something to be said for aftermarket suspension, especially when the fella spent so much money on it. I'm sure it has some quality pieces on it. If the car looks good and checks out with your mechanic, i'd buy it for the right price. An OBD2 car would be nice, but not mandatory, it was just a suggestion. You can't go wrong with the mighty LT1, these really perform well, almost as well as an LS1 in my opinion(i've had both). It's getting harder and harder to find a nice car with low miles and service records. Especially a car this age that could by this point have many owners. Finding an original or second owner car would be very appealing to me. Make sure you run a carfax on it to see where it has really been. Good luck, and post some pics if you get it!!!!

Re: is this a good buy?

Dude, buy my car lol. Seriously though its well worth the money, check it out everyone, let me know what you think for the money it doesn't get better, from every camaro I have seen lately they go for a higher price with all the engine miles!
New engine people, your moneys right there

For the money you would save you could throw a suspension kit on it and that would be almost all it needs besides dented bumper and minor interior probs.

This thing starts and runs like a drag car of course its an automatic but...
