General info on 98 thru 02 Camaro

New to this Forum, so a little slack if I'm in the wrong pew. I have a 96 Vette with the LT1, but also want a 98-02 Camaro. Prefer the LSx motor.

However, would like some general info regarding the difference in the 98 thru the 02 model years. What to look for, stay away from, etc. Body Style seems the same, internal options that would make one year more desirable than others?

They are all the same. A few chances in the motors for more power. Also the early LSX motors tended to suffer from piston slap and suck down oil because of it.

Check out the stickies and a search in the LS1 section.

JRP's stickie in the newbie section of ls1tech is also great:

What's an "early" LSx? It's my understanding they first came out in '97, but only in the Corvette. Might be some in the trucks or special vehicles, just don't know. Does early mean 97-98 or 97-99?

Great Site..! Thanks, that's exactly what I was looking for.

Question for anyone: The T tops in the 70's & 80's always leaked and warped, thus not fitting well. Is it still the same, or did they actually get it right by the end of the 90's ...?

they've gotten better. but if you really want to keep the frame straight and the body less squeaky...install some weld in subframe connectors

The 4th Gen T-tops are pretty solid... no rattles or leaks in mine, and I've had the car since new, for 12 years, now pushing 800HP through the chassis. The subframes were only added in 2001 with the roll bar.

Re: General info on 98 thru 02 Camaro

look for an Camaro from 99+, because in 1999 the F-body become a new non-metallic tank with a capacity of 16,8 gal.....
and the oil life monitor was new in this year (okay, only a gimmick )

in 2001 there was a little incrase in Power for the LS1 engine (now 310hp)
