Gauges 101

Ok, I want to put a nitrous pressure gauge and a fuel pressure gauge on my a-pillar. my problem.. i have no idea what i'm looking for. like whats the difference between full sweep and short sweep, etc. any info would be nice... are there any problems with certain sized guages? anything do i need to stay away from? can i buy them off of crackheads? will i get a .50 off of my quarter mile time with one? yeah like i said... any info would be nice.

Re: Gauges 101

if your mounting a fuel pressure in your car you need an electronic one, auto meter only makes full sweep electric ones now they had a recall on the short sweep ones adn dont make them any more, I paid like 100 for my old short sweep gauge and got the 200 doller one when they had the recall on them, the only other way around a fuel gauge in the car is to have an isolator mounted outside in the engine bay, you cant have a direct fuel line ran into the car its not safe, piller pods take 2 1/16 gauges, I had got all of mine from jegs and summit depending on who I was making an order from when I decided to order them. here is a pic of a full sweep fuel and a shrot sweep oil pressure you cna see how the full sweep goes all teh way around and can be more accurate.

All of my autometer liquid-filled guages leak . Don't know if that helps.

liquid filled gauges suck, you need electric ones. they cost a little more but there worth it.

Re: Gauges 101

I have the AutoMeter full sweep 2-5/8" Sport-Comp gauges for fuel pressure (electric) and nitrous pressure (mechanical). You definitely want a full-sweep gauge, and the 2-5/8" diameter makes them easier to read accurately. You want the most accurate read you can get on fuel pressure and nitrous pressure. One of the advantages of the Firebirds is having the A/C vents available for the 2-5/8" gauges.

I also run the 2-5/8" full-sweep mechanical on oil pressure for the same reason. The only 2-1/16" 90-deg sweep guages are for oil temp and tranny temp (both electronic), in the A-pillar. For those, you just need to see roughly whether you're on the hot side or the cold side.... absolute accuracy is not as critical.
