What to check for on a used Z28?

2000 Camaro Z28 6-speed
Intake (K+N), SuperChip, Eagle 17"s (w/ bfg tires), Exhaust (Borla or Flowmaster), billet grill
80,000 miles

going to see it tomorrow or sat and if I like it pick it up, a retired guy has it now that doesnt drive it (bought for wife) says hes the second owner and that it hauls ***.. with that intake, exhaust and a chip id say what like 350-360 hp?? and those good tires (80-90 tread he says id say running a 12 once I get the hang of a stick?)

my question is i am going to have a mechanic do a inspection.. im 17 how does this work?? just bring it to a dealer or have the seller do it before i see it?? also what can I look for?? (im not totally car stupid mind ya I'v helped changed out motors and done alarms, sound systems)

I'd let the mechanic take care of the mechanical inspection, you should do a car fax and a lean check though.

already paying $340 a month for my car now when I was 16.... i got full coverage the now that im 17 camaro's like $380.. my record is clean to no tickets at all and no wrecks/claims just gotta keep it that way only reason its like that is because my dads a doc I gotta have high insurance evne though I live with my mom if I get in a wreck they can sue him till i'm 18.. so my dad pays for 75% of the insurance I gotta pay for car/rest of insurance

loved how this thread went far from your original question, ive noticed with my experiences, most the time you dont even have to look at the car, look at the seller. From the pic i can see the owner has a nice chunk of property and its well taken care of. Probley can be said for the car. Do the basic checks, oil , coolant, check tranny shifts, find a place that you can punch it, i bought a car that shifted fine, until you punched it from a 40 mph roll, and then it sliped. Let the car idle till warm, see what the temp stays at. Check all the minors, a/c, heater, windows, locks, ect. And if your gonna put a pretty penny into the car, get it check outed by a mechanic.

Re: What to check for on a used Z28?

usually the power windows give trouble, many z28s i know, including mine had to have the motor replaced. So check how this one is. Also, it's interesting to learn that you guys in the states pay so much for insurance. I live in Dubai, and for my stock 98 z28 insurance, I pay only $350 per YEAR on third party and driver+passengers coverage. On perfect record of course.
