gauge problems!

This weekend i started noticing that whenever i turn on my car, all the gauges jump from one end to the next, then slowly settle back to their zero position, then finally move to the correct setting (gas, speedo, tachometer). This whole process takes like 8-10 seconds, and i don't remember this ever happening before. My Tripometer also resets every time i turn on the car. If i just put the key in and turn the ignition so that i just get power but don't actually turn the car on, the correct mileage is there, but once i turn the car on, it resets. Has anyone had this problem or know what can be going on? The car was at the shop last friday getting a new water pump and muffler installed. Is there some wire that might be shorting that could cause this?

What year - is it a '99? Check battery for low voltage/connections.

I thought the odometer reset in cold weather was a common problem with the early LS1 F-Bodys, and there may have been a Tech Service Bulletin. Not sure if it was still a problem in 2001.

OK, looked back at a your other posts and see it is a '99. Have the battery load tested/replaced that'll most likely fix it. If not here's the TSB number on replacing the '99 gauge cluster - 99-08-49-009 Trip Odometer Resets to Zero (Exchange/Install Instrument Cluster).

Bet the shop left your key on and/or listened to the stereo while working and ran the battery down. If it's the battery you'll know soon.
