Gauge Cluster White Face Removal
Gauge Cluster White Face Removal
Hi All,
I am new here as of today. I bought 96 Z28 last summer and the previous owner installed a white gauge layover/face. I hate it as I can't see my turn signals in daylight and leave them on by mistake because of it. I found a write up on how to get to the cluster but before I go thru all that, will I be able to just peel off the face and will it be EOM black behind it? Thanks

Re: Gauge Cluster White Face Removal
I installed the overlay in mine, but have never removed it.
If you attempt it, the key thing to note is the positioning of the instrument needles before removing them. Be extra careful not to move the posts after the needles have been removed.
With the number of different overlays on the market, who knows what kind of adhesive was used. Once you get the overlay off, I would start trying to clean with rubbing alcohol in one of the bottom corners. If that works, work slowly across the face until all the residue is removed. If not, you could try GooGone, but start slowly in a corner to make sure the chemical does not damage the actual face.
Another trick I have used for removing adhesive from stickers is packing tape. Take a piece of tape off the roll, and lightly push the tape onto the stuck adhesive. Lightly/slowly pull the tape away from the surface. Observe if the adhesive is making any attempt to stick to the tape; if not, you are stuck with the chemical solution.
