Re: gas

A little off topic here. In my opinion any 93 octane gas will do you fine

Not exactly a "Show and Shine" topic. Let's move this.

Re: gas

Shell made the most power in a gas comparison test I saw on tv a week ago or so. But all the gas brands they tested were ethanol blends. Someone may wana correct me if I'm wrong but if memory serves me well ethanol free gas will get you somwhere between 5-10% more power than ethanol blended fuels. It may actually be fuel mileage numbers that I'm remembering but even then, if its giving better mileage that means its making more power to. I believe we need to quit wasting corn on our fuel.

Re: gas

Read your Owner's Manual. The minimum octane for avoiding lss of performance with spark timing retard is 91. You can use as low as 87 without damaging the engine, but you will lose power.

The above is based on sea level operation. The higher the altitude where you live, the lower the octane requirement. If your engine has heavy carbon buildup, you may still get some knock retard with 91 octane. You can use a scanner or data logger software to see if you are experiencing knock retard.

Go here for an Owner's Manual, courtesy of Shoebox:

Re: gas

Good addition Injuneer. I think I figured he was using premium grade anyway since he wanted to be using the best of the best. Go find a gas station with PREMIUM straight gas though! It'll give the most mileage and power.

Re: gas

Problem is, in the winter months, the EPA requires the use of oxygenates in gasoline, in areas where carbon monoxide emissions exceed Federal clean air standards. With the elimination of MTBE due to its hazardous nature, including contamination of ground water sources, alcohols are the predominate oxygenates. Depending where you live, you may not be able to find "straight gas".
