Fuel gauge problem
Fuel gauge problem
New to site but not to message boards. I recently purchased a 86 IROC that has a few minor problems. You could say i'm a bit of an amateur when it comes to working on cars, but i know a lil somthing about somthing. I'm planning on making this my project car.
One problem the cars has is that it doesn't read how much fuel is in the tank. I'm not sure if it's the float or the gauge itself that needs to be relpaced? Another problem is when i get up around 70 mph the engine starts to hum and vibrate slightly. I know this sounds normal for a 20 year old car but believe the sound isn't normal.
any suggestions?

Re: Fuel gauge problem
There is a relay that might have went bad, either that or you fuel filter is shot and isnt letting any fuel in, does the car even start?
I had a similar problem with my 84, the guage would stand straight up when i turned the key and stayed that way with the key in the off position, only my problem was also the car wouldnt start and wasnt getting any gas, witch i later found out to be the fuel filter
