Frontend Questions

I am thinking about going nuts with the frontend of the car. I am thinking new crossmember, manual steering rack, a-arms and getting rid of my ac.

Questions:

With the manual rack, do people tipically remove the PS pump, or do they cap it an leave in? If I took it out and got a shorter belt, how much would harmonics be changed? Does anyone make a PS delete kit?

With the ac removal, is there anything i need to do with the electronics that I unplug?

With the tubular crossmember, is there enough room to get the oil pan off if the stock windage tray is not in place?

Re: Frontend Questions

I think you should remove the pump. What you are going to gain by changing the rack over is mostly weight. So if you leave the pump there you are not really gaining anything. Also you would have to have oil circulating through the pump if you just run it as an idler or it will burn up and tear the belt off anyway. I don't know why you would want to unless it is a dragstrip only car. The benefits are really not worth it I don't think.

Re: Frontend Questions

Well for what you will gain in looks (and weight savings) I think you are better off keeping the power steering; but if you do change it over take the pump off and either make up an idler pulley on a bracket or if you can just take off the pump (I can't remember how the belt runs right now) A good parts man should be able to get you a belt the right width and length you will need. Good luck.
