Flushing heater core?

Well guys, my heater core is plugged up pretty good. Took it to my friend who owns his own mechanic shop, and we determined its the heater core by putting a heat-gun and checking the temperateures of the go to and return hoses. Going in was 185, leaving was 115....so it wasn't getting coolant to the heater core. The thermostat is new, so i know its not that.
Now, how do i flush out the core?

Okay, i figured out how to do it, but where are the 2 hoses? I found one that runs under the CAI sorta, wheres the other one?

Re: Flushing heater core?

probably plugged or defective. your only chance would be to pressure flush it at a shop...check the prices...sometimes better to replace

Re: Flushing heater core?

i'm going to try to flush it out w/ a garden hose/pressure washer first. Prices around here are all 100+ to do it, and i'd rather not have to pay for it. Where are the hoses at tho?

Re: Flushing heater core?

Maybe you should just flush the whole system. If something blocked up the heater, chances are something else might get blocked as well. I used the Prestone system flush stuff. It works really well, but it puts a LOT of air into the system. Just follow the directions and you'll be good. It's also best if you unplug one of the coolant plugs in the bottom of the block.

Re: Flushing heater core?

Are the "coolant drain plugs" on the block on the bottom of the radiator, or what?

Re: Flushing heater core?

there is a drain at the bottom passenger side of the radiator and at the bottom of the block on both sides. the pass side should be your knock sensor and the drivers side is just a bolt that looks like it goes to nowhere

Re: Flushing heater core?

Remove the heater hoses at the water pump. That's the easiest way.

Re: Flushing heater core?

Add a "signature" with basic info about your car - year, model, engine, tranny and any major mods. That way people can give you accurate answers without guessing or ASSuming.

If your core is that plugged up, replace it.
