fan switch wiring question

I need to wire a manual fan switch for my 94Z so i can turn the fans on any time the car is running (or at least ignition on). I want the most basic setup that works, don't care about fancy LEDs and i hate wiring in diodes, relays, etc... Looking at Shoebox's diagram, i have a couple questions...

The high and low speed wires that you are tapping into... the point is to energize them with 12 volts, right (whever switch is in ON position)? And they in turn send just enough power to trip another relay/switch to turn the fans on? THEREFORE, this wiring i'm using from sitch to spliced wires will be carrying only a small amount of current, right? So i can use 16ga or such small wire.

So all i kneed is a 3 position switch... ON/OFF/ON, wire that to a 12v source that is on when Ignition is on. Then it completes the circuit either to high or low side spliced wires. that simple, right?

i just want to make sure i'm reading this right, and that i don't need to install relays or whatever that will carry higher amperage to the fans.

i'm trying to get this car to the track tomorrow and if the old lady will drive it in the beginner's classes i suspect we'll need some extra cooling capacity.

thanks

If you're not running LED's, you don't have a 12v source to worry about. All this switch is doing is grounding either the low or high fan, so they turn on. Normally the PCM would do this, the switch is just bypassing it. Just use the same gauge as the blue and green wires (looks to be about 16) or bigger.

You better read again. You DO NOT want to wire any 12v to the relays. You are applying a GROUND. You can forget all the fancy stuff if you don't want it (though, it is really nice to know when you fans are on).

ah, ok, it think i get what you're saying. so on my switch, where i would normally hook up a 12v signal, i'll just hook up a good ground instead. thanks.
