Fan switch, Maybe Casper, SLP?
Fan switch, Maybe Casper, SLP?
Im going to do this in a week and I need the best setup. I fix my over heating with the sensors but the fans never went on and now it runs 190-210 but when it sits for about 5 min it runs at 230 for a while waiting for the fans to turn on and then it slowly climbs to 240-250. Then if you wait5-10 min and start the car it goes near the red and goes down only to 250 and once I drive it goes back 190 - 210. I need a switch so when I sit for along time I can run the fans or when I shut the car off then when I start it its not so hot. 1.) Should I find a switch diagram that makes two fans that go on or one. 2.) is SLP good for swtiches? 3.) Should I just get one at Auto Zone? I put the AC on and the fan doesn't go on. I did the relays and fuses and still doesn't work. Only when you plug that tester in the box the relay area the fans go on. Pissin me off. I need a kit. Please help. Thanks guys. It has the stock pump and thermostat.

Don't buy a kit. My buddy did the fan switch for whatever a switch costs and he had some wire around the garage. The switch is ridiculous expensive. There's a diagram around here somewhere, search for it or someone will post it I'm sure.
Casper electronic
They have one for 58 bucks. Im busy and im not good with wiring. Casper has it where you just plug it in and run the wire through the firewall or the door jam. Has a high and low speed setting. How much would I save if I buy the switch and stuff at Autozone?
i've had the SLP switch in my past 2 cars....piece of cake to install and all the connections are good and sealed.
if you aren't sure on wiring...pony up.
but sounds like you have some major electrical issue with the fans.
sounds like you need to get a test light and start playing with the circuit. start with the test plugged in and fans running. make a list of connections that are hot. then unplug it and wait for the car to heat up to the point where the fans SHOULD turn on...see where the circuit goes cold.

I've have several of the SLP switches in different fbodies and they work great. You may also want to consider testing temps on an other than stock gauge, as it is possible the gauge is not reading properly, or at least not accurate enough to tell if you are as close to overheating as you may think.
It is under 10 bucks for the wire, switch and the quick splice connectors. You run 3 wires, one from the fan high, one from the fan low, and a ground all into the switch. The switch gives you high and low fan speed. Shoebox's directions are very clear. Don't waste your money. The switch you need can be found at radio shack and it has 3 positions. "On" on the top and bottom and "off" in the middle.
If you are no good at wiring and don't have the time just buy a switch.
However, if you have issues that your fans won't come on, you may have a problem that even a fan switch will not fix. It just depends on where the problem lies.
