F body Dash Question
F body Dash Question
So I won a new dash on eBay. It's the hard plastic piece where the defroster vent goes. Anyway, I was wondering if there's anything I can do to it to keep it from cracking in the hot Florida sun? I as thinking of coating the backside with urethane for added strength. Any thoughts?
Re: F body Dash Question
If there is, I want to know too. My car as been Georgia owned since the say it was purchased. There is only a little crack by the front left speaker, but I don't want to get bigger. I've been putting armor all on it every time I wash it since I bought it.
Re: F body Dash Question
10422746 is the number for a 97+ dash pad. I paid $80 for mine on ebay ($35 for the dash and $45 for shipping). The price is still better than $100+ for a new one. On eBay, do a search for "Camaro Dash Pad", you'll get a bunch of older models and usually 1-2 of the 97+. Also, check with Fparts, he's a junkyard supplier on eBay, and the guy I got mine from.
Re: F body Dash Question
JMHO, but I would not spend money on a used one that had been sitting in the same conditions as the one I had. The constant sun exposure makes them brittle. I would hate to buy a used one and then break it during install (because you have to flex it a little to get it in there).
A new one is a little over $90 + shipping (which won't be real cheap, because it is oversize), but might last longer.
The urethane might not be a bad idea. I don't see how it could hurt.
I aggravated a crack in mine, the last time I had it off to get in to repair the trip odometer. A little creative "plastic welding" on the back with a broad tipped soldering iron and some added epoxy has made it hold up so far.
