Engine swap
Re: Engine swap
dare to be different!!! i like that. i have always been a fan of weird engine swaps, no matter how little sense they make. i seen a 95 mustang at a car show with an LT1 in it, i about crapped my pants most people would say that is a big no no but i thought it was kind of kewl. i almost put a 403 olds in my 75 hornet but ran out of funds and interest. i knew that the amc crowd would hate me for it but oh well. so now the 403 is going in my friends el camino!!!! i also tossed around the idea of putting a 2.3 turbo (ford) in the amc. my LT1 is pissing me off so badly that i am thinking about putting an L67 supercharged 3.8 from a grand prix in it. (cammed and stuff of course!!) i figure if those v6's can push a wrong wheel drive grand prix well into the 12's, imagine what it could do in a rear drive car of equal weight with a 5 speed and some good ol 4.10's.
Re: Engine swap
I'm willing to bet that out of the 40,000 members registered here on CamaroZ28.com, that not one of them has put a Mopar 440 in a 4th Gen. I may be wrong, but I'll take my chances.
I guess one way to approach this would be for you to measure the width and height of your 440, so that someone could compare it to Chevy Big Block dimensions, since we know they will fit. Then you'll have to pick a tranny, since that may be a "fit" issue as well. Then you need to determine whether its fuel injected or carbed, and if fuel injected, what aftermarket system are you planning to use?
As far as the Mopar rearend, how are you planning to add a torque arm mount? Or are you looking at a 4-link conversion?
Just curious.... if you like Mopar better, why are you even fooling around with an F-Body?
To me, something like this would be more exciting, while keeping it all in the family.....

Thanks
Too much work for too little of results
J/K Would you go carb with it? If so, you'd have to make sure it could fit, which I'm sure would require some fabrication. Then stripping out the entire wiring harness on top of replacing the entire running gear. I'm sure it can be done, but it's not gonna be easy and its not gonna be cheap. Goodluck if ya can pull it off!
Re: Engine swap
The dimensions are 28 inches from valve cover to valve cover. 35 inches from top of carb to the bottom of the oil pan. 30 inches from water pump to back of the motor.
I know I have to buy a different hood. But Im unsure about the lip that goes past the windsheild wipers and that stuff.

Re: Engine swap
I remember talking to yo awhile ago when you were thinking about the carb'd LT1. I would suggest you do the following:
#1 establish your budget for your car
#2 establish what you want the car to be... drag car, street car etc.
#3 Honestly ask yourself if #2 can fit with your answer for #1
#4 consider something thats a little easier done than a Mopar 440 into a 4th gen f-body
#5 go back to #4 & think about it some more
Putting a Mopar 440 in the car is not going ot be a very simple operation. It's far from impossible but you will need to take a lot of measurements & find a few parts that will fit & fab 95% of everything yourself or pay someone big bucks to do it for you. I would guess that if you were able to pull off a project like this yourself you wouldnt need to ask about it here.... you would have the plasma cutter burning through steel already so plan on spending thousands to get someone to make the engine install work. Seriously probably enough on fitting the mopar engine to cover the cost of a 500 HP small block chevy that will bolt right in & work with parts you can pick up the phone & order. The engine/exhaust fitment within the confines of a 4th gen engine bay will be the largest issues.
It's definately going to need an aftermarket Kmember & then modify it additionally, have headers hand built for the car, & tons & tons of other stuff
Seriously... You probably need to come up with a more conventional plan.. something like a chevy engine either big or small which things are available to make them work already. If youre hell bent on the mopar engine find a fabrication shop in your area & talk to them about it in person as youre not likely to find much help here or anywhre else online.
LAstly old Mopar junk can sometimes bring nice money on Ebay etc... you might be able to sell off some of that stuff to pay for a stout small or big block Chevy & have a much easier time building your car.
