Re: engine bay cleanup
I think he means the box on the firewall for the A/C, the one that has the metal lines going into it on the left hand side....I would like to remove this also, has anyone done it with their ac delete? whats behind it?? plastic duct work?
Re: engine bay cleanup
The A/C evaporator is in the black box, then the heater core is behind that. The heater core may be far enough into the dash that you can eliminate the A/C box and the A/C evaporator, and still keep the heater core in place.
Billingsley makes a "delete" plate for the box:

Re: engine bay cleanup
If you delete everything, you won't have a blower motor to move air for the heater though.
I'm going to make a fiberglass box type thing to connect the blower to the firewall for the heater core. To my knowledge, noone makes an A/C delete for the firewall that retains the heater blower.
EDIT : Maybe i'm thinking of our third gen. Does the LT1 car have the blower in the car or on the firewall in the engine bay ? If it's in the car, I've just saved myself a WHOLE lot of trouble.

Re: engine bay cleanup
With the LT1 the heater core and Evap core and the blower motor are pretty much all one piece. You will know what I am talking about when you see it. It would take some pretty good fabrication skills to remove the Evap core and the black box and still retain heat. I still have not heard from anyone thats been able to pull it off. Its alot of work just to get in there to remove it, and going to all that trouble just to leave most of it (ducting, etc ) in there isn,t worth it in my opinion. Either rip the entire HVAC system out or leave it in. You can still delete AC just leave the Evap core in.
