Unhappy Electrical problem, please HELP!

I have some kind of electrical problem that has me and my friends stumped. When I turn the key to the on position, the accesories all turn on and everything is ok seems like. But when I turn on the parking lights or headlights everything goes haywire and the guages max out, all interior lights dim. If I turn the key to start the car, nothing at all happens. It all started with my battery going out and wouldn't hold a charge. I changed that and no problems for a while. Then the car started doing this one day, just randomly. I have checked every fuse in the car, I have checked all the wiring I can think of in the dash and engine bay. I checked the ignition switch. I am out of ideas. Anyone ever had a similar problem.

I can't tell you where it is located, but is sounds like you have lost a ground, either in the dash or to the headlights or dash lights. You may want to track down a wiring diagram and see where the grounds are located and start with that. You may find a manual at your local library (saves buying one).

Either that, or check both battery terminals and make sure they are tight. This is the most common cause of that problem.

well turns out it was the battery connection. LOL! There have been 3 people in the last two days work on this thing and all of us have connected the battery at one time or another. I went out and tightened the positive and the negative as much as I could and sure enough that was the problem. After that it took me at least an hour to put the car back togather and I got it back on the road. Thanks for your help guys, I wish I had posted this sooner, lol!

Don't 99's have bad wiring problems, or am I just remembering something that isn't true.

I would check for a bad battery connection. If that doesn't work, you may have a lost ground like trackbird said. Lets hope that.

FYI, I had a problem like that with my LT1, and it was a seriosly corroded battery wire and connetor.
