Re: electric or manual cutout?

the e cutout is aluminum in most cases, so I don't think rain would hurt it. I have an e cutout that will be installed within a month. I wanted it for the simple "push of a button." I want to be able to scare the sh*t out of someone with the flip of a switch, or turn it to closed when I see the local county brownies. Pig pigs don't like noise. This allows you to drive open or closed, all without leaving the cockpit!
Not sure on reliablity of the e cutout, as I have not put it on yet. I am sure they are fine though, as long as you tuck them up there good so speed bumps don't eat them! :-)

I have an electric one and have had no problems with it so far and its been in the rain. I think its more convenient than crawling under your car every time to open or close it.

Re: electric or manual cutout?

Have someone weld it in and intall the electric motor part your self. You'll save $300 and it's pretty easy. Do a search and look for writeups on installing an e-cut out.

No problem in the rain. I've had mine for a few years now, and it works great!

Re: electric or manual cutout?

I went with the cheep wingnut cutout from Summit, had it welded in place of the cat and after the first winter all the wingnut wings broke off when trying to remove the cap. If you drive it in the snow you'll run into corrosion problems no matter what its made off but just in rain it should be fine.

Re: electric or manual cutout?

It's not necessary but is definitely cool and you'll still come out cheaper than a full catback

I've found it's nice to have if you're crusing and the car starts making a weird noise(like freaking a quick clicking noise from the front end) you can close it to listen closer.

I think I have a messed up piston or pin or something

But anyways, go for the manual cutout first, and if you ever want the switch then just go for it. It's not like you can't add it later.

Also mine works fine in the rain, though I don't usually fiddle with it much. As long as you don't hold the switch longer than it needs to be(stressing the motors at full open or full closed) it should be fine.
