EGR Valve

Hey guys quick question when I manually open my EGR Valve its supposed to change my rpm and or cause the car to die right? When doing it to mine absolutely nothing happens. I followed shoebox's diagnostic for the EGR up to the point of pulling vacuum off the manifold. I have about 27 HG directly off the manifold. The reason I didn't pull it off the solenoid was because if the valve isn't working but I'm getting vacuum off the manifold I'll just replace the solenoid and valve together. Just want to make sure I did this right and that by manually pushing the diaphragm of the EGR open it was supposed to do something noticeable?

Re: EGR Valve

When you push the diaphragm manually to open the valve, at idle the engine should stumble.

Your comment about the solenoid is unclear, but since EGR doesn't operate at idle, the solenoid should be closed at idle, blocking the vacuum from reaching the EGR valve.

You can't have 27"Hg of vacuum off the manifold. At idle with a stock cam you will see 20-21"Hg. Are you sure you weren't using kPa and reading MAP, and not "Hg?

Re: EGR Valve

Sorry about the confusion. When I pull vacuum at idle right off the manifold I have about 20 HG. At 2000 RPM which is where I was supposed to check the solenoid vacuum to see if there is at least 7 HG (as shoebox says) I just left it on the manifold side and when holding steady at 2000 RPM vacuum was around 27 HG. Not sure how that works because I always thought with RPM increase vacuum would decrease. Anyway, I did check the EGR valve right after I started it, not sure if that would make a difference or not, but it was fully closed. It was idling smooth with no problems and when I reached back and opened the EGR valve there was no difference whatsoever in the way that it idled.
