Easier to bring an LT1 or Fox into 12s

So heres the deal

Like many of you, i've always wanted a 12 second car.

I currently own a 95 Z28 6spd with 110K miles that I bought for $6800.

Comparing the two-

Which would be easier to bring into the 12 second 1/4 mile. My car or a 5.0L Fox.

From what I hear the Fox is MUCH easier to work on, and parts are a lot cheaper, but you need more mods to reach the same goal (220hp vs 275 stock to stock)

As it is now, I'm somewhat scared to rag on my car any, bc if anything goes wrong I know how much of a pain it will be to fix anything under the hood.

Just lemme know what you think.

I think you got ripped off bad paying 6800 for a 95 Z28 even with an M6.

IMHO, if you are already worried about how much trouble it is to work on the car, get rid of it. You'll be happier. That's about the nicest way I can put it.

fox's take heads, cam, gears, etc.
my friend has a 88 LX 5.0, 5spd w/ 4.10s, GT40 heads, and a crane cam along w/ a 650 dual pumper 4 bbl carb and new intake, and hes running 12.5's
altho, i think mustang parts are cheaper, idk. id rather have the LT1 though, a lot easier to get faster than 12's

for about $1000 you can get the camaro to push over 270 to the wheels and for $1500 you can push about 400HP to the wheels (refering to a 125 shot of N2O)

My car with mods in the sig has run a 12.98. With cam and heads it would be in the low 12s.

Well when I bought the z28 it supposively had a rebuilt engine, new clutch, and the tranny was taken out and inspected. So I thought it had a new drivetrain. I then noticed some white smoke so it could be a possible head gasket.

I bet I could sell it for $6800 to some kid or even $7000-$7500. I know some of my buddies say "DAMNNNNN U got a GREAT deal" so they're out there.

keep the LT1, screw foxbodys lol.... but seriously u will be able to get the LT1 in the 12's easier, many bolt on LT1's r in the high 12's, (no Cam/heads, N20, s/c, turbo, etc) check around the boards u'll see

Remember the old axiom: "There's no replacement for displacement". Plus, the LT1's run a much higher, streetable compression ratio due to the reverse flow cooling. Making power is going to be easier then with the Fox 5.0, in a mod-to-mod buildup. I don't know about how much the cost of parts are for the mods, but would assume that the 5.0 would be cheaper because it has been around a lot longer. It would be kind of like comparing mods for a Gen I vs. Gen II SBC.

Your asking kind of a vague question. You can achieve 12s pretty easily with either platform just by throwing on a decent dose of nitrous and some sticky tires. How do you want to do it? All motor or a little help with some forced induction?

Well my main goal is to have something that can run consistant 12s on just motor. And then experiment with nitrous to possibly reach 11s.

The mustang at this point just seems more appealing to me, because I feel like I can rag on it and not have to worry about breaking anything seeing how they are cheap and easy to fix....my z28 is a little different..

But I dont know how much the overral reliablility will suffer when if I do do a nice h/c/i combo for the mustang (probably the trick flow kit)

A full-bolt on LT1 is capable of dipping into the 12s with the help of some sticky tires.
