E-Brake Problems

Recently my e-brake has not been working at all. Sometimes I can pull it up and it will go very easily almost to a 90 degree. Other times its very tight and hard to pull and I'm lucky to get it to a 45 degree. Either way it won't engage at all. This past weekend I took apart the console and everything seems aright and it looks like the cable is being pulled as it should. So what should I check next? I'm guessing the cable is broken or disconnected somewhere. Any info is greatly appreciated.

Re: E-Brake Problems

I had the same problem on my car, and it was the rear calipers that were the culprit. One of the bleeder screws was leaking, and for some reason my E-brake would act the same way. Sometimes it would go all the way up, other times it would only go about 3-4 inches. I just got two new calipers and pads and re-did the brakes back to factory. If you do go this route, I would like to warn you that the guy at O'Reillys told me that sometimes you get a loaded caliper, other times a bare one. What that means is that it might come with the E-brake assembly on it and all that, or just the caliper with piston. Hope this helps!

Re: E-Brake Problems

Well at least your guys E-brake still works sometimes...
I pulled up to work late from my lunch and pulled the e brake after i parked and BANG! THe handle came up fast and I just looked at it and laughed and
then realized I snapped the cable on my way inside the building....I thought I was getting stronger but it was just the cable snapping. Mine did the same thing. Sometimes it will come up easily and sometimes it would be hard to
pull back.....oh well

Thats the same exact place where my cables split.
What did you have to purchase to replace/repair that?
How long did it take?
Cost?

Re: E-Brake Problems

same here...its scary on the hills though....I remember once I put the car in park and I guess that Torque lock did not engage and I opened the door and let go of the break and the car started moving ...Luckily I had my wheels turned slightly to the right so it stop after 6"!!!
