dumb question from a newbie
my camaro is a 4 speed with a 396 and i just want to make sure that i am shifting it properly. what are the ranges of speed for each gear? meaning how fast can i go in each gear before i should shift? thanks.

try to see if you can get a feel for peak power. shift when you feel the powerband weakening. this should be before redline. no point in spinning the engine fast if it isn't making the most power
EDIT: Ok, I've had some talks with car people more knowledgeable than me, and what I typed above is 99% BS. If you're making more pounds of torque in the current gear even past peak power than you would be in the next gear up, it's best to stay right where you are. This, of course, makes shift point selection alot trickier than just going by peak power.
