Door lock replacement

Hello everyone,

I got a problem, it seems someone tried to break into my drivers side car door. I have power door locks but lost the remote, so I must use a key and when i slide the key into the drivers side door it goes in but does not turn anymore. I cannot feel any of the threads catching like i do on the passenger side door when I slide the key in, it seems like they just put a screw driver in the door lock and stripped everything away so my key does not work. I am wondering what would be the best way to repair/replace this. Should I buy two new locks so they use the same key? Im also unsure on the exact part I need when I look it up on gmpartsdirect so if anyone could tell me what parts I need it'd be extremely helpful.

Thanks,
Jake

As a locksmith thats where Id take it. Now that being said. Finding 1 who works on car cylinders is another story. Cant give you much more advice then that.

Re: Door lock replacement

Good luck replacing 2 doors the rear deck and glovebox for what we would charge for 1 "coded" door cylinder installed. At my shop it would be around $100. More then fair for a cylinder and an hours labor.

Re: Door lock replacement

You don't have to buy all new locks. You just get one and file the tumblers to your key. If you can't do this, it will take a Smith about 5 min.
