Yes. It prevents fuel starvation on acceleration/cornering. It 's basically a feed trough for the fuel pump, disconnecting it can overheat the pump...

The stock Venturi tube leads doen to a jet pump system at the bottom of the bucket. The pump shoots a high velocity stream of fuel within this line, fuel which flows across the opening of a checkvalve in the bottom of the bucket. Fluid dynamics dictate that a movign fluid is at a lower pressure than a stationary fluid, so this causes the fuel in the tank to be literaly sucked upward through the checkvalve, filling the bucket even when is very little fuel in the tank. The venturi system operates all the time, which helps cycle fuel through the bucket to keep the pump cool (excessive fuel simply overflows the top of the bucket). A seperate equilizing checkvalve operates under simple hydrostatic pressure to let fuel in - But not out.
This bucket system keeps the pump submerged in fuel even under hard cornering and launches; it's critical to proper functioning of the F-body's fuel system, as the tank does not contain baffling of any kind. Think of it this way: the bucket in analogous to a feed trough for the farm animals. If the trough ever goes empty, they get pissed off. By "animals" I mean your LS1, and by "pissed off", I mean explode.

Ok, thanks. Was wondering cause i glued it toinight(put racetronix in) just i im not sure how good i got it glued. So it was wondering if i missed it up If i could just not use it.

Glue? I hope the fuel won't eat it. Like i transcribed the quote. It was out of the april edition of GMHTP's Racetonix pump install. Probably the same one.

The glue that came with the kit, to seal the bucket back up. You only get enough for 1 time. I was asking if i had to re-seal it what type it was so I could buy some more.
The glue won't break down in gas, its the same stuff that held it together orginally.

I tossed the bucket and besides initially having issues getting the hose from the pump to the hard line to seal up (I had to double clamp it) I have had zero issues with no bucket on the Walbro I installed.
It certainly won't hurt to reuse the bucket and this is how GM enineers intended for it to be but in my opinion its not required to get good results.

I used plastic epoxy, the install is done on the pump. Now my pressure doens't surge but i still have a high end surge/miss. So i guess my opti is going out at same time. Everythign else is new
