Do High flow cats last as long as stock?
Re: Do High flow cats last as long as stock?
random tech is a good company..so they shouldn't be to bad, life wise. check to see how long of a warrenty they have..bud most hi-flow cats do burn out sooner than factory ones
Re: Do High flow cats last as long as stock?
I have Random cats and they're warrantied for 5 years for the casing but only 2 years for emissions.
They're expensive and if I had to replace them I'd get a set of these:

I put a Random Tech cat and SLP y-pipe on my 94Z in Jan 2000 and it started to rattle ( broken Brick) in Dec of 03. My car does run a little rich and it just so happened to be about the time I had been planning on replacing my plugs and wires, so...
New plugs and wires with a "gutted" cat.
Now my rear bumper cover really gets black, the car is white.

I also had a Random Tech cat that started to rattle after a couple years. When I pulled it off, it was not actually the honeycomb that had broken apart, but rather the padding that holds the honeycomb in place. So, basically I had the entire honeycomb substrate rattling around in there.
I called Random Tech and they said this might happen if i had been running rich, and excess fuel built up on the padding. Then they said that it could ignite the padding and cause it to burn away. Granted, this was partially my fault due to the rich running car, but it also seems a little crazy that the entire cat was ruined b/c of the padding.
Since I had just bought the cat afew years ago, they offered me a 'discount' on the new one ($170).
Personally, that still seems a little expensive for a cat replacement within a couple years.
