DMH cutout harness questions

DMH cutout harness questions
I have a 3" DMH cutout, and i was wondering if it would hurt anything if i extended the harness that leads to the cutout.
Looking at possible power/ground areas under the console, i was wondering if i could use the power wire from the cigarette lighter? The only reason i ask is the power wire from the DMH looks pretty thick, and the cig lighter's wires are very thin.
