Dirty German Syntec

Hello all, recently had a oil changed. First 3,000 miles with German Syntec. I asked my mechanic ho wit looked, he replied it was dirty.

My question is that a positive or negative sign? Is that the detergent power or something else?

I don't understand what it is that you're asking? After 3,000 miles all oil is dirty.

You had to have a mechanic tell you that your oil looked dirty?

From my observations, synthetic always looks dirtier than dyno oil.

You want to know for sure? Send a sample of your used oil to Blackstone Labs.

Unless your car is running with natural gas or LPG: this way the oil stays clean for a long time
Well of course it is more common to have a car like that here in Europe

Indeed. I sent a sample out to Blackstone Labs with my first German Castrol change and it showed very good results on a 7k interval.

As for the oil looking dirty, it is supposed to look that way. What other reaction would a mechanic say about used motor oil? I would be concerned if the oil didn't look dirty.

I remember when I first got my car (before I changed my own oil) and the "mechanic" did a pre-oil check or what not and said "You could use an engine flush, your oil looks dirty."

Just looked at him and said "Yeah its dirty...thats why I'm changing it".

Sounds good so far, thanks for the web address.

I am not Mr. Goodwrench, only thing I di dwith my car was install the K&N. So when I heard the GCS was dirty after only being in 3K, I panicked, did my researched, learned more about the goop and oil in general.

It was my first use of GCS. I am a Mobil 1 fan . Will continuet to use it cause I didn't see/feel anything Earth moving about the GCS, and I can get a discount on Mobil 1 at Wal-Mart through a friend.

I am one of those who change synthetic every 3-4K miles. I love my LT1, but due to anything cooling system related going continuously, which I would love to snap the neck of all the clowns at GM responcible for that abomination, I get scared of leaving the oil in too long. Thanks again.

i am currently working @ a valvoline oil change and i would have to agree with this on a dyno/conventinal oil, but i see synthetics look verry clean after 3k-4k miles. not im not saying it looks new but it isnt black. also if you want it to look "cleaner" longer run a system flush in it, fill it up w/ cheap oil run for 3 more min and drain and add your synthetic!

Most syns i see still clean is MB1 and Valvoline Durablend the full syns. Pens is alwase black, even on a 500 mile top off! i would say MB1 is by far my fav, and run it in all my cars

if the oil is clean, then the dirt is still in the engine right? anyway, I've used synthetic for a while now, I don't think I've ever seen it come out clean, or close to clean. I do 4-5K oil changes.
