Didn't know I had an alarm!

So if I use my electronic lock instead of just sliding the button over manually my alarm goes off once I unlock the doors. It scared the crap out of me! Once I start the car the alarm turns off though. I think it is the factory alarm but obvioulsy I don't have the keychain and neither does the dealership I bought if from. Does anyone know what I can do? Are there universal remotes that can be programmed once I know what kind of alarm it is? Anfo info would be appreciated.

Re: Didn't know I had an alarm!

You can find the remotes at the dealer, or on Ebay and the procedure to program it in can be easily found with the search feature.

Re: Didn't know I had an alarm!

no problem

Just make sure you get the right one. They changed over the years and are not compatable.

Also the programming method changed over the years.

I think the change over was in 1997 when the cars got Body Control Modules (BCMs).

Sounds like it does - look for RPO codes UA6 and AU0.

Re: Didn't know I had an alarm!

I was surprised big time when I had my v6 camaro, I accidently pushed both the lock and unlock at the same time and my car turned on. I was like WTF! I miss the Remote start, If my z28 was auto, that would be the first thing I would've put on.
