Dexicool turned to sludge?
Dexicool turned to sludge?
Anyone have any experience with this or heard any words. I got a rumor from another message board about this stuff being crap. Aparently there is a lawsuit.

I work in the auto service industry, and well, lets just say thats just what DEXCOOL does. It's nasty stuff. I run nothing but green in my car, but if you switch, get a flush and run ALL the dex out of the system. When dex and green mix, they GEL up.
Dexcool reacts with oxygen and becomes muddy and clumpy. Biggest trouble spots are the reservior because it doesnt circulate and anywhere there's a small leak

I just had my DexCool flushed about a month ago and after one year since my last flush and fill, it wasn't that tarnished.
However, when I bought my car, the coolant dipstick had brown sludge all over it. I had the whole system powerflushed and all the gunk just came all out and the system was clean for the most part.
My GM Master Tech. that I go to says DexCool isn't bad stuff, but it WILL NOT last 150K or 5 yrs. like GM says it will.
I think as long as you change it every year you'll be fine.

They had a problem with dex cool in the early GM Trucks. but it;s a good design. I have never seen a problem with it in an fbody when people take care of there cooling system. any antifreeze can turn into sludge if it;s not maintained. Ethylen glycol and low silicate dex cool alike.
A big factor is electrolosis. take a multi meter. one probe to the neg battery termonal and take the other prob and drop it in your radiator. what do you see? the pressence of volatge. The wuestion is how much voltage. an independent study says that to maintain the corect function of dexcool you must not see more then 0.0516 volts ... any more then that and your 5 year antyfreeze just turned into a 3 year antifreeze.
No honestly. how many people properly flush and refill there antifreeze? I do. and it's perfect. Never had one single problem and I don;t intend to. infact I am about to flush it and refiill it again.
another thing. GM relesed a statment that says NOT to use any kind of additive with dex cool. I'll post a link in a min.
The other thing that a lot of people do not realize. it;s the minerals in the water that is reactive and causes biuld up. you need to use disiiled water. this is cause distilled water is chemicly nutral and non reactive. this will prevent mineral deposits form forming and building.
a clean well maintaned system using distilled water in a 50/50 mixture and proper pressure will mean a healthy system.
here are some links.
Distilled water link.
thats the only one that I saved. I used to have a few more.
