Damn squeak from rear end.......
Damn squeak from rear end.......
Ok I got this annoying squeak from the rear end when you hit bumps in the road, sounds metallic to me.
It definitely is not the rear LT1 brake squeak, that only happens when turning and I fixed that problem a while back.
I dont think it is exhaust, I went though that today and the squeak remains.
Got new LCA's and PHB so it aint those either. It definitely sound like its right rear.
Any ideas.
Thanks

Re: Damn squeak from rear end.......
had that same squeak in mine, popped the trunk, took the plastic piece off that covers the spare tire, made sure the spare tire was tight and the jack was tight and problem fixed. my spare tire was loose and made a squeak whenever it moved. hopefully yours is something as simply as that.
Re: Damn squeak from rear end.......
How did you fix the squeaking from the rear brakes? I used to have that problem but it seems to have disappeared. I am just curious incase it decides to come back.
Thanks
Thanks
Re: Damn squeak from rear end.......
My rear swaybar bushings and endlinks squeek like crazy when I drive over bumps, so maybe that's your problem? It might not hurt to spray some lubricant on them and see if the sound goes away (for a day or two).

One or maybe both of the rear rotors is rubbing a rear caliper bracket. I can almost guarentee this is causing the noise, it happens on LT1 rear brakes a lot.
There are two fixes.
The first is to remove the caliper bracket from the axle (2 bolts) and slide the bracket off off the caliper (just slide it off).
If you look closely at the bracket you will see the spots where the rotor is rubbing, you will also see the circular marks on the rotor too, mine were on the outer most corner of the rotor.
Get the disk grinder out and clearance the bracket in the areas where the contact is occuring and reassemble. I had to do this two times to completely silence the squeak.
The second method is to place a pair of thin washers or shims behind the bracket where it bolts to the axle. You are trying to slightly move the caliper bracket outward just a bit. GM actually sells the shim kit for this exact problem, however i dont know the part number and I dont think it works as good as the grinder.
The reason this happens is normal wear on the axle c-clips and or doing a R&P change that throws the axles off a bit. The axle is allowed to extend outward in a hard turn and the rotor makes the loud squeak when it contacts the caliper bracket.
Re: Damn squeak from rear end.......
I got a squeak like that too. When I drive straight or turn left, I get a squeaking noise from what appears to be my left rear brake. When I apply the brakes the squeaks go away and I get this chattering type noise. Hard to describe but it sounds like a bad clutch.
Re: Damn squeak from rear end.......
I get that when I go up my driveway (it's a bit of a hill). I also have heard it when hitting minor bumps in the road as well. My brother-in-law told me it's the bushings in the rear end and you can lubricate them if you wish.
Re: Damn squeak from rear end.......
Ok the the annoying squeak is definitely the rear brakes. I read somewhere that the pads will shift when hitting bumps and cause the problem. I heard the noise a walking speed over uneven pavement and its parts shifting causeing the problem.
I know I am missing one of those H shaped plates that install in the rear caliper, maybe that is the problem. I guess I need to find one of those. If anyone has any junk LT1 rear calipers please let me know.
I will look at this problem maybe next weekend, working on the Jeep now.
